Teaching Philosophy
My objective is to become an elementary school bilingual teacher that will utilize my dedication to children’s educational needs and development. To encourage creativity and higher-order thinking in a way that will increase my students performance. One day I read a quote from an anonymous person that stated, “Teachers are our nation builders-the strength of every profession in our country grows out of the knowledge and skills that teachers help to instill in our children.” My goal as a teacher is to be an influential role model, and commit to the students well-being both inside and outside. I want to be able to affect every aspect of my students lives, teach them important life lessons that will help them succeed beyond papers and test. A key to students academic success is to make learning fun, and engaging. Making my classroom an exciting environment for learning will hold the students attention. This is a way of motivating students in an easy, challenging, and interesting way. Inspiring my students will be a major component of my teaching system. Inspiring my students is a way of ensuring their success and encouraging them to fulfill their potential. Students who are inspired by their teachers can accomplish amazing things, and motivation always stays with them. This can be done by helping them through their academic success, short-term goals, and guiding them towards their future career. Successful teaching starts with effective communication skills, and being clear with the classrooms objectives/goals. To be successful, teachers must design learning opportunities that allow EVERY students to participate in activities in which they understand that learning is a process and mistakes are natural. For example, after telling the students what to do I will show them exactly how to do it. Modeling will help them understand what they are supposed to do. Also, I will provide them feedback regularly on individual assignments or group work. I will also implement cooperative learning, because students learn effectively when they are working together. With this process they will learn critical thinking skills, communication skills, and problem solving skills. I will also implement class discussions. Class discussions will give them an opportunity to speak on what they have learned. This strategy will help me pinpoint their knowledge, and discover which students grasp the concepts and which students don’t. In my classroom I will use a variety of ways to asses students. I will ask students to reflect on a lesson by writing their journals. I will give short quizzes to check for comprehension. I will ask students to orally summarize important concepts. Also after a lesson I will have them prepare a presentation in groups. I will use formative assessments to monitor student learning, this will help the student and myself know their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work. I will also use summative assessments at the end of a unit to evaluate the students overall knowledge. I will grade upon clarity, creativity, and demonstration of knowledge. I will provide grading rubrics so students have a clear understanding of what is expected. To be successful I will keep my students informed of their progress throughout the course. I will improve my teaching skills by doing current research, attending teacher workshops, and getting together with my co-workers. I know I have taught effectively when I see my students progress throughout the course. I will use portfolios to gather my students work throughout the year. If I see that they stayed at a lower level from beginning to last that means I did a poor job. But, if I see that they went from a lower lover to higher level from beginning to last that means I did a good job. My students educational success will be my most important goal.
